UbD & F. Scott Fitzgerald

Some important themes that we may study this marking period are the ideas of materialism and greatness. We will also learn about the time periods of the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties. Since our essential question is about our future and the impact we can have, another theme that we can study is our significance in life and start to think about our futures now that we are near it.

Some background knowledge we will need to know is what life was like during the 1920s and the general information about that age. And apparently Jazz Age goes with the Roaring Twenties so knowledge about that age could never hurt.

One of the things that drove Fitzgerald to write was romance. One of his first novels that we wanted to publish was "The Romantic Egotist". Then he thought he found the love of his life which made him want to finish that book even more. Sadly he was rejected.
What was interesting about Fitzgerald's life was that he had pretty good jobs growing up. He was a manufacturer worker, then a salesman in a good company Procter & Gamble. He also was enlisted in the Army. Even after all these types of occupations, he became a writer. But perhaps because of all these jobs and experiences, this made him a better writer overall. He had a good background knowledge to become a good write.

Independent Reading - MP 1

And Then There Were None
Agatha Christie
9/30: Pg. 85
10/18: Pg. 168
10/28: End of book

It is mainly in the city building up to the main setting which is the Mansion on the island of U.N. Owen.
Basically, U.N. Owen, a rich man, invites 10 people to come to his private mansion to have fun. But as the days past, one person keeps going missing, a similar or exact way in a poem found in one of the guest's rooms.
So far, there are an assortment of people of all different backgrounds. But what they all have in common is that they have all committed murders before. U.N. Owen is this mysterious rich guy that brings all these people together.
I think the theme is about karma. These people are dieing off one by one and the irony is that they all, once in their life, killed someone.

And interesting thing about this book is that it was turned into a video game for the PC.
The main point is to find out who did what and solve the mystery which isn't really the story but is still interesting.

What is Your Flavor?

My favorite type of movies are action movie, thrillers/horror movies, certain cartoon movies like Toy Story and sometimes drama/chick flick movies like The Last Song.
I like these types because they are most enjoyable to watch for me and are movies that I would not get bored of watching even after a few times watching it. Action/mystery movies are always something that is enjoyable since they keep me on my seat and are just fun to watch, especially in 3D. Toy Story type cartoon movies are classics.

For reading, my types of books are mystery books and books like The Outsides, Slam, Into the Wild. In terms of magazines, I like to read about celebrities and their lives and also gaming magazines such as EGM. Since I like games and the genre, gaming magazines are interesting to read and know what next gen technology is going to come out to change the gaming industry. Again all these types are ones that I enjoy.
