This was an insane article. This guy just decides to leave everything behind to live a new life with a new identity and a new everything. At the very beginning, I thought that this was going to be another 'Chris McCandless's story' but it turned out to be even crazier and better. I was confused about this guy and his intentions. Was this all a game for him to see if he could really disappear? He didn't really run away because he hated his life. He ran away to prove not only to himself but t the world that if he could do it or not. I honestly do not know why he would try but it made a good story. Overall, this guy is nuts to try to do something lie this. He even planned about this and reviewed all of his decisions. With all this planning was it even worth t just to "leave society" for less than a month.
This "James Donald Gatsby" could have disappeared in my opinion. He practically gave up near the end of the article. He opened his Twitter to the public, he started using his credit card and made his IP address traceable. Before he was giving out his location and information, he was doing a nice job in deceiving the search team and leading them the wrong way. So if he just persevered a little longer and kept doing what he previously was doing, I think he could have ran away.
It relates to 'Into the Wild' because they both run away from society to prove something. Chris wants to prove that he can live without any help with the things in society and 'Jay Gatz' wanted to see if he could disappear in a digital age. The only connection I can think of between Gone and 'The Great Gatsby' is his fake name.

IR Blog Post 3 - Miley Cyrus Smoking a 'Bong'?
http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b215627_billy_ray_cyrus_breaks_silence_on.html
It is not exactly what it sounds like. Miley did smoke out of a bong, but it was not marijuana or any other addictive illegal drug. She was smoking salvia a legal drug that still gives you highs but much shorter durations and not addictive at all. The article talks about the drug as 'one and done'. Miley's dad, Billy Ray, is very dissappointed and says he did not know anything about it. Even if this drug is legal, it still does not take away the fact that Miley is trying to get high, and this is just one step closer to the real deal. I believe that soon enough we will all find out that Miley has done something she will regret for the rest of her life.
With so much fame and wealth and notoriety, does she not realize that no matter how secret she thinks she is doing something, someone will leak it? Her naiveness will be the downfall of her wonderful career ahead of her.
Miley has not yet realeased any word about what she has done. What will she say about this incident?
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20448642,00.html
The first article didn't talk terribly about Miley's incident, but this one makes Miley look bad since they have quotes of Miley while she is high and all delerious. This puts a more negative look on the star. She uses profanity and is just looney when she is on this natural herb.

IR Blog Post 3 - Sixers vs. Celtics
http://www.libertyballers.com/ (Dec 9th Post - Sixers Lose Celtics on KG Alley-Oop).
What a dissapointment to all sixers fans including myself. It was a very enjoyable game to watch with a terrible ending to believe. Surprisingly the Sixers had the lead going into the second half and was doing well all throughout the second half. But unfortunately, the last few seconds, the Celtics pulled of a beautiful in bound alley-oop screen play to Kevin Garnet, sealing the hopes away for the Sixers. A wind that night would have been HUGE. With a six game home winning streak, things were going their way, but unfortunately the Celtics pulled it off with a 102-101 victory over the Sixers
Why didn't the Sixers defense have at least one person in the paint during the final play?
From such a devestating lost, can the Sixers pick it back up this sunday against the Hornets?
http://www.philadelphia76ersblog.com/ (Sixers Lose Heartbreaker to Celtics)
Another blog specifically for the Sixers and again, the are talking about how dissapointing the game was. The Sixers definitely had a strong chance throughout the whole game but with Ray Allen, Rondo, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Garnett on the other team, it is hard for anyway to face up against them.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/innovation/11/11/iron.man.suit/index.html?iref=allsearch
Future Soldiers may perhaps be able to live in th shoes of Tony Stark and his Iron Man suit. This suit is an exoskelelton that gives immense power to the wearer. Even in the prototype stage, it amplifies the strength of an average soldier 17 fold. So far this suit is only in use to carry heavy loads on the battlefield and moving heavy objects. But soon enough this fantasy suit, may become a valuable asset to combat. With the immense power that comes with the suit comes lots of money and energy. Hydraulic power is the most practical way to power the suit since battery powered suits may be harmful and dangerous. A hefty $150,o00 is needed to make a, 'Iron Man' suit, pretty hefty for a product in its early stages.
How soon will this become effective in battle and will not bring trouble to the user and people around them?
Why are we spending money on things like these when we could be spending it on reviving the economy or education or repaying our trillion dollar and more debt?

Theme #3 Reflection
I thought I did extremely well with this theme. I had a good idea for it, I think I used white space superbly and had a great theme. But apparently the theme reader did not get my message. I guess I was just unclear when I am stating my thoughts. I honestly thought I got at least a 90 on this. Shame. According to the theme reader, I did not do anything well.
Organize my thoughts better and being more clear of what my message is.
Clarity, organization, focus. Mainly being able to convey my thoughts better.
Edit: Now that I have talked to the theme reader and clarified a couple of points that she could not understand, she gave me a higher grade, from a 75 to an 85. I am definitely more please with this grade than before but I still thought I could get at least an A on this theme.

IR Blog Post 2 - Montgomery Citizen of the Week
http://www.montgomerynews.com/articles/2010/11/30/ambler_gazette/opinion/doc4cf5d0bdac9a0650596825.txt
This week's Citizen of the Week is our very own Dillon Farrell. This article is about his Grad Project that was a 5k run to help raise money for the SaveJapanDolphins.org. He put together two things that he absolutely loves, running and marine biology all in one project. And the whole event went so much better than he had hoped it to be, raising over $1000. His leadership skills definitely shows through this event and being captain of the cross country team doesn't hurt.
How does it feel to be Citizen of the Week or does it blow over his shoulder after awhile?
The article says that he got help from other foundations like Born to Run and North Whales Running Co. How did he get there help?
This article focuses on his cross country. It doesn't really have anything about the award but this shows his dedication to the sport, placing 5th at districts and 21st in states.

IR Blog Post 2 - Wikileaks
http://articles.cnn.com/2010-11-28/us/wikileaks.attack_1_wikileaks-whistleblower-website-documents?_s=PM:US
First off, Wikileaks is a website that posts confidential and important information. items such as government memos and unreleased information. It is a very controversial site that has recently made it big in the news with its Iraq War Logs and now hundreds of international transactions that could jeopardize relationships with other countries. The Iraq War Logs is basically a journal from a private in the US army talking about missions and government memos. The recent leak has many private conversations between world leaders that could easily jeopardize everyone. Wikileaks was shutdown temporarily but still continues to run with all the information out to the world. The Internet is a powerful tool.
Why would someone do this? Even if editor-in-chief isn't even a US Citizen, all of this is information is so detrimental to all nations. Information about conspiracy and backstabbing is information that can radically change the views of nations, most likely for the worst.
Will, or has, any country taken any severe actions due to these leaked information? For all we know, these documents could all be a lie, but for now things should get a little heated.
Amazon has taken this situation as a huge motivation to stop hosting the site. Smart move due to the problems this could cause. But Wikileaks did not stop there, they moved to another location and is still up and running. The new "office" is like a "James Bond" hideout. Either way Wikileaks has erupted many negative views.

IR Blog Post 2 - Qatar: World Cup Hosts
http://www.cnn.com/2010/SPORT/football/12/02/world.cup.qatar.opinion/index.html?npt=NP1
Qatar is a very small country, about the size of 2 Chicagos with a population of one Chicago, and has only existed since 1971. But with such little years in existence, it surprisingly has boat loads of money. This country has struck a natural gas abundance on their land. Also, this country has saved up so much in order for something like this to happen. With the natural gas and investments, they have become one of the richest states in the world, relatively over night. Qatar is famous for its sporting events, the Qatar Golf Course, Qatar Open and WTA Championships for Tennis. Their soccer team has always wanted to be in the World Cup but couldn't, so instead of going to the World Cup, the World Cup is coming to them. What is nice about this whole incident, they are getting a lot of publicity and may become a huge powerhouse despite the size of the country.
Since the country is basically on the equator, how will players and spectators deal with the sweltering heat? The article already touched on a new cooling system and uses solar power to provide zero-carbon air conditioning. But since it is new technology will this actually work? But what is nice is that after the tournament, they plan to tear down the stadium and rebuild it in smaller pieces in countries that are struggling with the heat.
Also, Israeli's are apparently banned from entering the country, so will this bring religious controversy? Will the religious war spark again because of this tournament?
This site has a really positive opinion on the issue of the heat in the country. They believe that this new air conditioning technology will definitely work and being temperatures down from 50 Celsius to 30 degrees Celsius, which is will happen not only in the stadiums but surrounding sport centers around. They also invite the fact that the world will be introduced to a new culture, which the World Cup is all about.

Photo Analysis
The picture is of the Invisible Man in his basement of the all white complex with all his light bulbs hanging everywhere. For living in there for free, it seems to be a pretty decent room. He is living in there for free because he is invisible and basically no one even knows that he is existing let alone living down there. I believe that he has all those light bulbs because it is his way of feeling alive. The electric company knows that the power is being used but doesn't even know whom t charge it to. So far he is truly invisible to society.

IR Blog Post 1 - Unemployment Benefits Do Not Extend
http://money.cnn.com/2010/11/18/news/economy/unemployment_benefits_extension/
This past Thursday, the house was trying to extend unemployment benefits to an extended 12 weeks from the original 73 weeks. The last time there was an extension, which lasted 6 months cost $34 billion. It is pretty ridiculous how much money is given out through the benefits. In the past 3 years $319 billion were given out as jobless benefits. Even though the House thinks that an extension will be more detrimental than helpful, the tone of the article says other wise. This article would like to see an extension. It is saying that by not extending, it will devastate families and the entire economy.
Does an extension really help families? I mean, if they can't find a job in 6-8 months, what makes people think that an extra 3-6 months and $34 billion dollars will help those same people go out and get jobs. I think it is just more incentive to stay out of work and wait it out.
Where does the government even have the money to spend so much money on one thing? They have so many other payments to worry about like education, health care, military, it is hard enough just to pay those.
This article has the same opinion but not as strong as the first. Such as saying "I think and I believe". But it still believes that the extension should be approved.

IR BLog Post 1 - Michael Vick and The Eagles
http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation (So how would Dan Reeved defend Vick?)
Eagles had a huge win over the Redskins last Monday with a score of 59-28. He had a record-breaking performance and almost broke the record for most points in the first half coming 7 points short of 49. Many teams find it very difficult, and on some occasions impossible, to defend Vick's play style. Since is probably the fastest quarterback in the league, and from that night's performance, one of the greatest arm in the league, he has a versatile arsenal that have teams spinning. Head Coach Reid has made sure that Vick intensively worked on his passing game. The hard work payed off during the Redskins team when he was threading the needle with his passes. He used to rely on his running game a lot and now he makes sure to scan the field for multiple targets before taking off on his lightning feet. But Vick says that he is working harder than ever. He felt like his was slacking off with the Falcons and now wants to redeem himself, not just from his past games but from his past dog felony.
I watched the game myself and it was one hell of a game. I was watching that and a different show and every time I flipped back to the game (in the first half) the Eagles would score again. It was unbelievable.
Will Vick be able to perform the same way he did against the Redskins for the rest of the season?Hopefully.
With no Superbowl Rings under his belt, will Vick be able to pull one out this year or the upcoming years?
Pretty hard to disagree with the fact that the Eagles crushed the Redskins on Monday night. This article actually goes a little farther in saying that Vick is just getting started. Hopefully he is and will show his real game when it matters the most.

IR Blog Post 1 - Harry Potter
http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/detail.jsp?contentId=212058
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 1 came out on November 19, and many people made plans for the midnight showing. If you are a fan of the series and/or the books, you will love this book. If not, this movie isn't the greatest to get started with. Since this movie had a huge budget to play around with, the effects and crazy scenes were much crazier in this movie. It is definitely a bummer that it the movie has 2 parts to it. This is the producers way of making more money on a series that is about to be over.
My first question is to see how much money this movie will actually make opening night. I believe it will break some records, at least previous Harry Potter movies.
Will this movie live up to the others? I am an avid Harry Potter fan and I thought each movie just got better and better. Just got to wait and see for myself and for viewer reviews.
This site agrees with the first one stating that this finale opens the door for the next to years to Box Office gold.

IM Introduction, Ellison Bio, and UbD Post
Ellison lived a life of poverty when he was growing up, hopping train after train to make it where he wanted to go. As he is going through his tough life, he as treated as an underclassman and was not treated the way other races were treated. He was black and therefore ignored, like an invisible man. Even though he wrote this book as a fiction book, he wanted to bring in true ideas and events in real life into this book to mirror society. This book pretty much answers the essential question, "How does fiction mirror society?"
The book started off when he was ill and impulsively wrote down, "I am an invisible man." He went on with that one sentence over seven years and made it a 600 page novel. After seven years, he was able to put in a bunch of experience and situations into this book to make it as detailed and powerful as it can be.

Theme #1 & #2 Reflection
1. Theme #1, I did really getting a 92%. It was a really easy essay to write since it was very personal and was able to show more than tell. But apparently I did not show as much. The grade was really weird. I never had a 10 point difference in grades, so that through me off. I, unfortunately got the short end of the stick and received a 92. Since one reader gave me a 99, I thought that the essay was good enough and therefore didn't do a re-write. The best part of my paper was my style. Like I said, since this was such a personal essay, it was easy to put in "voice" into the paper.
Theme #2, I got a much worse grade. I thought I did well on this theme, at least a mid B worthy paper. I didn't do really well on one area but if I had to pick one, it would be style. This is the same as last time, so I guess my expertise is in this area. Obviously disappointed, but hopefully can do as well as my 1st theme on future themes.
2. For theme #1, more showing and not telling. That got me a few points off. I have always struggled on focus, and for this essay, focus is huge since it is less than 500 words. Focus and "showing" are the places I could most improve on.
Theme #2, I got hammered by conventions. Usually I do a pretty good job with conventions, getting As on this part. This time I did terrible and it is shocking. Overall I did a much worse job than the first time.
3. I could have taken advantage of the re-write for the first theme since that would have probably kept my 99.
For theme #2, I tried to focus on detail and put in as much book references as I could into the paper. I guess I focused on that too much and suffered on conventions. Next time I will have to balance everything and make sure all parts are up to par.

The Great Gatsby Final Project

2. It is better to live the "Good Life" than not live at all.
3. We wanted to convey that it was much better to live a good life through the contexts of the Gatsby and the 1920s than to not live the good life.
4. Mixbook.com is a very easy tool to use. 2 of our group members used it for the IRB project and since it worked so well, we chose to use it for this one. Therefore I would use it again and again. I already used this web tool before a couple years ago so I have already had past experiences with it.
5. The overall explanation of the thesis was good. We used both the evidence of the book and evidence of the 1920s society in order to answer our thesis. We could have a much easier thesis to work with. I thought that this thesis was a little challenging to work with.

IR Project #1- Digital Storytelling
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
http://www.mixbook.com/photo-books/stories/and-then-there-were-none-4961020
1. I used mixbook.com to do my project and it is basically a powerpoint in a scrapbook kind of form. It was a simple summation of the book, touching a little bit of everything along with connections with what we have learned in class.

1. I used mixbook.com to do my project and it is basically a powerpoint in a scrapbook kind of form. It was a simple summation of the book, touching a little bit of everything along with connections with what we have learned in class.
I really liked the layout of everything such as the way I showed the information. More specifically, the book was a mystery so my theme was just a dark theme to it that added to the suspense of the story.
Also the connections that were towards The Great Gatsby were really good such as the weather as part of the setting and the whole karma idea.
2. Mixbook was really easy to use and is a good site. I did not have major problems, just a few minor ones, but knowing that it is a free website, I cannot complain.
3. I really liked this book since there was a lot of dialogue and very little narrative. The beginning was a bit boring since it was just introducing characters, but the suspense immediately started as soon as the guests around at the island. Also when I was reading it, sometimes I would get chills because this book was that suspenseful. Also the fact that the way this book is written, making you always wonder who the real killer is, adds to praise for this book. Most mystery books have cliffhangers, making you figure out who the real killer is, but I like how this book just straight up tells you that it was all Justice Wargrave.
Another book like this one will be great.

Chapter 9- Gatsby Reflections
"For Daisy was young and her artificial world was redolent of orchids and pleasant, cheerful snobbery and orchestras which set the rhythm of the year summing up the sadness and suggestiveness of life in new tunes." (151)
This is a very confusing quote but I think it is talking about Daisy's good life and how everything was going for her until something bad happened, in this case Myrtle's and Gatsby's death. All these riches and glorious that happen to Daisy builds up but cannot last long because eventually that reign has to come down. Daisy could not handle the pressure of the deaths so she is turning over a new leaf and leaving everything behind in the past. Therefore she will she will continue to be rich and ignorant and will always be able to "keep on swimming" since she has so much money. She can just hide behind it.
This goes hand in hand with 1920s in general because the '20s was a very prosperous time where industrialization was happening. But all these good things become to much for people to happen and then leave them in a state of sadness. In 1920s perspective, people wanted to get rich fast ad started doing illegal things like bootleg alcohol which led to crime and ultimately the downfall of the economy.

Independent Reading- MP 1 (Post #2)
Setting - 1930's and the real drama happens on Indian Island of somewhere off the English Coast.
Plot - So far 10 ex murderers come are invited by a mysterious wealthy man to spend some time on his private island. It is really creepy, and so far a few has died and they match the deaths to what they found in a poem. The mystery of what is going to happen to these people is intense and is making me read on and on.
Characters - 10 ex-murderers, U.N. Owen - the rich host
Theme - Karma? since they killed people before and now they are getting killed one by one.
It is really suspenseful and is a really good read.

Gatsby- Chapter 3

Living the "good life" means a couple things depending on which point of view you take. There is the person who is hosting the party, Gatsby. His good life is just to make everyone entertained and happy and have them have a wonderful time, basically doing things for others.
The other point of view is of the person attending parties. These people have a "good life" by going to all these extravagant parties and go to where everyone else is going.
My idea of having the good life is just doing what you love to do, consistently. Perhaps it could be going to a lot of parties or maybe it could be staying home with kids and watching them grow up. It doesn't really matter what you actually do as long as you have fun doing so.
It seems that the good life of the 1920's is to be well-known and rich or be apart of those rich people's lives. Basically, be where everyone else is at.

UbD & F. Scott Fitzgerald
Some important themes that we may study this marking period are the ideas of materialism and greatness. We will also learn about the time periods of the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties. Since our essential question is about our future and the impact we can have, another theme that we can study is our significance in life and start to think about our futures now that we are near it.
Some background knowledge we will need to know is what life was like during the 1920s and the general information about that age. And apparently Jazz Age goes with the Roaring Twenties so knowledge about that age could never hurt.
One of the things that drove Fitzgerald to write was romance. One of his first novels that we wanted to publish was "The Romantic Egotist". Then he thought he found the love of his life which made him want to finish that book even more. Sadly he was rejected.
What was interesting about Fitzgerald's life was that he had pretty good jobs growing up. He was a manufacturer worker, then a salesman in a good company Procter & Gamble. He also was enlisted in the Army. Even after all these types of occupations, he became a writer. But perhaps because of all these jobs and experiences, this made him a better writer overall. He had a good background knowledge to become a good write.

And Then There Were None
Agatha Christie
9/30: Pg. 85
10/18: Pg. 168
10/28: End of book
It is mainly in the city building up to the main setting which is the Mansion on the island of U.N. Owen.
Basically, U.N. Owen, a rich man, invites 10 people to come to his private mansion to have fun. But as the days past, one person keeps going missing, a similar or exact way in a poem found in one of the guest's rooms.
So far, there are an assortment of people of all different backgrounds. But what they all have in common is that they have all committed murders before. U.N. Owen is this mysterious rich guy that brings all these people together.
I think the theme is about karma. These people are dieing off one by one and the irony is that they all, once in their life, killed someone.
And interesting thing about this book is that it was turned into a video game for the PC.
The main point is to find out who did what and solve the mystery which isn't really the story but is still interesting.

What is Your Flavor?
My favorite type of movies are action movie, thrillers/horror movies, certain cartoon movies like Toy Story and sometimes drama/chick flick movies like The Last Song.
I like these types because they are most enjoyable to watch for me and are movies that I would not get bored of watching even after a few times watching it. Action/mystery movies are always something that is enjoyable since they keep me on my seat and are just fun to watch, especially in 3D. Toy Story type cartoon movies are classics.
For reading, my types of books are mystery books and books like The Outsides, Slam, Into the Wild. In terms of magazines, I like to read about celebrities and their lives and also gaming magazines such as EGM. Since I like games and the genre, gaming magazines are interesting to read and know what next gen technology is going to come out to change the gaming industry. Again all these types are ones that I enjoy.
