"For Daisy was young and her artificial world was redolent of orchids and pleasant, cheerful snobbery and orchestras which set the rhythm of the year summing up the sadness and suggestiveness of life in new tunes." (151)
This is a very confusing quote but I think it is talking about Daisy's good life and how everything was going for her until something bad happened, in this case Myrtle's and Gatsby's death. All these riches and glorious that happen to Daisy builds up but cannot last long because eventually that reign has to come down. Daisy could not handle the pressure of the deaths so she is turning over a new leaf and leaving everything behind in the past. Therefore she will she will continue to be rich and ignorant and will always be able to "keep on swimming" since she has so much money. She can just hide behind it.
This goes hand in hand with 1920s in general because the '20s was a very prosperous time where industrialization was happening. But all these good things become to much for people to happen and then leave them in a state of sadness. In 1920s perspective, people wanted to get rich fast ad started doing illegal things like bootleg alcohol which led to crime and ultimately the downfall of the economy.
